MEETING A GROWING NEED
I personally believe that the G-CARDZ were a God-inspired “invention” that grew out of a “necessity” that I was observing in the evangelical community. I saw the need for the followers of Jesus to have an evangelism tool that was both theologically sound and comprehensively interactive for this ‘information-age generation’.
It is a tool that, with proper instruction, would guard against the easy-believism of our time and yet convey the free offer of the Biblical gospel of salvation (as Phillip & Paul did – see Acts 8 & 16) in a way that was, as Jesus put it, “wise” (intelligently-fitted for a particular purpose) and simple (harmless/innocent/gentle) [See Young’s Literal Translation of Matthew 10:16; expanded emphasis mine]
This need that I was witnessing had grown into a full-blown burden of mine after personally speaking with countless individuals who had professed Jesus as Lord. I became acutely aware of the fact that many believers were simply not able to proclaim a comprehensive gospel presentation by opening up their own Bible and walking someone through a well-rounded, ‘Scriptural’ presentation centered on the Person and finished work of Jesus Christ (i.e. WHO He is, WHY He was sent & WHAT He finished) – and – HOW one is to personally receive Him (i.e. by grace alone, through faith alone, etc.). Their DESIRE WAS NOT MISSING, but the ABILITY was.
The reason it is so significant for believers to be able to present the actual scriptures pertaining to the “gospel” is because of the following passages, though there are many others I could cite: Romans 10:17 “…(saving) faith comes by HEARING and hearing by the word of God/Christ” (i.e. contextually, the gospel message); 1 Peter 1:23 “…you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God” (i.e. the gospel message); 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14 “(God saves us) through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth. He called you to this THROUGH OUR GOSPEL that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ”; Lastly, Romans 1:16 “… (The GOSPEL message) is the POWER OF GOD unto salvation to everyone who believes…” The Holy Spirit and the gospel message work in communion with one another unto salvation!
Finally, let me say that I have no illusions about the fact that my G-CARDZ stand on the progressive works and teachings of others—TO GOD ALONE BE THE GLORY—but my heart is overwhelmingly convinced that they are a unique tool for our time, with provocative features and strengths that have the potential to equip the saints for service in a way that perhaps deals more dynamically with some of the complexities of witnessing in this particular generation – complexities, as I’ve stated, that stem from the ‘information age’ in which we are living. That being said, please also know that it is not my intention to take anything away from the many treasured evangelism tools on which my G-CARDZ were built! It has simply been my personal experience (and the experience of those who have been using them over the last several years) that these 8 cards seem to inherently promote a confidence that, along with prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit, inspires a boldness that has been turning desire into action—and I give thanks and praise to God alone for the creative inspiration, the practical knowledge gained from the many witnessing opportunities He has granted me, and the many dedicated Evangelical Christians who have gone before me that have published the fruit of their studies and labor of love in the area of “Biblical Evangelism”. So, once again I would to say: TO GOD ALONE BE THE GLORY, GREAT THINGS HE HAS DONE–AND IS STILL DOING!
Let’s EMBRACE THE MISSION™ and “go” together!
